About PowerpointMate

PowerpointMate is a Gold Coast-based business making one thing: a better way to mark, cut, and level power points. The tool was designed by an electrician who got tired of doing the same job the hard way — and realised there was a smarter approach.

The Story Behind the Tool

Steve Lika has been a licensed electrician on the Gold Coast for years. Like every sparky, he spent countless hours on the tools marking out GPO cut-outs, cutting holes in plasterboard, and levelling power point plates before tightening them off.

The process worked — but it was never as fast, consistent, or clean as it could be. Marking by eye meant cut-outs that were slightly off. Checking level separately added time. And on a job with thirty or forty GPOs, those small inefficiencies added up to a lot of wasted time and the occasional result that wasn’t quite right.

So Steve designed a solution. A simple, precision-made template that addresses the whole problem in one tool.

What PowerpointMate Does

The PowerpointMate template does three things that usually require three separate steps:

  1. Marks the exact cut-out — The template traces the precise opening for your GPO, correctly sized for standard or slimline Australian power points. No measuring, no guessing. Trace it once and cut to the line.
  2. Shows you level before you cut — A built-in level on the template lets you check that your cut-out is level before you pick up the saw. Get it right at the marking stage, not after the hole is already in the wall.
  3. Levels the GPO at fit-off — The same template goes back in at fit-off. Before you tighten the mounting screws, place the template on the power point and use the level to confirm it’s straight. Every outlet, every time.

The result: faster rough-in, fewer crooked plates, and a consistently professional finish across every GPO on the job.

Five Years on the Tools — Now Available Online

PowerpointMate has been in the hands of Australian electricians for around five years. For most of that time it was available through trade suppliers — AWM Electrical Wholesalers and MM Electrical — where it built a following among electricians who value doing the job right the first time.

Steve is now devoting more time to the business, and PowerpointMate is available directly through this website for the first time. That means any electrician, apprentice, or trade professional anywhere in Australia can get one without needing to be near a stockist.

At $25 AUD, it’s one of the best-value tools you can add to your kit.

Copied — Which Means It Works

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Since PowerpointMate gained traction on the tools, copies have appeared in major Australian retailers. We take that as confirmation that the concept is sound and the demand is real.

The original is still the best. PowerpointMate is the tool designed by an electrician who actually uses it, refined through years of real-world feedback from the trade.

Who It’s For

PowerpointMate is built for anyone who installs power points for a living — but it’s useful for anyone who needs to install one accurately.

  • Licensed electricians — Speed up rough-in and get consistent results across every job
  • Electrical apprentices — Learn to mark out properly from day one, without relying on guesswork
  • Builders and tradespeople — Anyone who rough-ins GPO locations before the sparky arrives
  • DIY trade-adjacent — If you’re doing your own rough-in or marking (with a licensed electrician completing the connection), a marking template makes the job cleaner
